Getting early morning breakfast burritos at Knapp's Wraps in White Rock (Yes, they've moved back). My usual choice is the Denver Wrap; sausage; red chile. I try to get there once a week - at least.

Here Comes The Trolly!

Los Alamos' Atomic City Transit downtown circulator trolly makes it rounds. Atomic City Transit buses run throughout Los Alamos and White Rock connecting riders, who ride free, with neighborhoods, businesses, and LANL.

If It's Thursday, It Must Be Cheaper Gas Day!

Every Thursday, the Phillips 66 and Conoco (just across the highway) lower their gas prices 10 to 20 cents/gal from 4-6 PM. Started by the Phillips 66 in White Rock, the practice has spread to other gas stations in town. Today - gas lowered to $2.59/gal; down from $2.75/gal; back up to $2.69 the next day. If you have a big pickup with an empty fuel tank, the savings really adds up.

Most folks patiently wait their turn. However, there are those that cut into the line. Unbelievable! Are they just oblivious, do they just know they are more important than everybody else, for maybe they failed to learn basic kindergarten rules

Finally! Some Rain! But Drought on the Way?

Finally got some rain in Los Alamos. Moisture coming from Hurricane Karl that hit Mexico a few days ago. Due to a strong La NiƱa, drought is predicted for New Mexico.   Top picture was taken with cell phone camera through a window. If it ever rains again, I'll take a better photo. [See below}

Second picture same rain storm over White Rock Canyon showing Rio Grande.

Los Alamos Food Cooperative Market ...To Be

LA Coop Market's crane indicates things to come, and soon. The story behind the Cooperative is an interesting story in building community as well.

Otowi Station

Otowi Station bookstore in Los Alamos. Here you can buy many books about Los Alamos' history and related books about LANL science discoveries. You can also buy science toys and maybe a T-shirt about how people in Los Alamos "glow in the dark." [We don't! Or, do we?]
Actually, I think those T-shirts are found at CBFox - look for a pic soon.

"Jogo Bonito" - The Beautiful Game

Recreational soccer game at Overlook Park. That brings back good memories of being a "soccer day" when my daughters played, first, rec soccer; then, competitive (Go Kixx); and then LAHS Soccer.

Storm Clouds Over Los Alamos

I took this picture on way home from Santa Fe showing storm clouds over Los Alamos and the Jemez Mountains. We always seem to be in midst of a drought. Average rainfalls in Los Alamos and White Rock are just on the wet side of desert classification.

Farmer's Market: Roasting Chile - A NM Tradition and Santa Fe Lavender

Top pic: Chile varieties from Romero's Farm of Dixon, NM are ready for roasting at Los Alamos Farmer's Market held Thursdays in the Mesa Public Library's parking lot.

Bottom pic: Santa Fe Lavender isn't in Sequim, but it is purple and has great lavender products.

World Famous Guacamole!

My wife came home and said, "We're going to Gabriel's!" Gabriel's, about 17 miles from house, is in Cuyamungue . We ate outside on the patio and had guacamole (made at the table), enchiladas, and tacos. Hmmm! Hmm! Good! :-)

Water: A Precious Mineral In NM!

In NM's dry climate, xeriscaping is important. Kentucky Blue Grass just takes way too much water (and mowing). My plan is to have a xeriscaped yard to save water and NO MORE MOWING! Took these photos on a bike ride yesterday evening around the streets of White Rock.

LAFD Putting Truck to the Test

I really appreciate the expertise, hard work, and pride our firefighters put into their mission. I couldn't resist taking and posting these pictures.
The Los Alamos County Fire Department serves both Los Alamos County as well as being the fire department for the Los Alamos National Laboratory and is a much honored fire department.

Black Mesa

View looking north from Overlook Park in White Rock this AM. Rio Grande flows south past Buckman Mesa with its Otowi Peak in the foreground. In far background is the historic Black Mesa on San Ildefonso Pueblo land. In the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, the San Ildefonso people withstood the Spanish by climbing to the top of the Black Mesa for several weeks. [Opening scene from the movie "Silverado" filmed here.]

Sunset over White Rock

Recent sunset from my front yard in White Rock in Los Alamos, NM. White Rock is part of Los Alamos County which is also the city of Los Alamos. WR is a housing area (village) which sits at 6300 ft. The downtown of Los Alamos sits at 7300 feet above sea level and is about 10 miles NW of WR. (This photo NOT taken today [taken on  8/23/2010] - but I wanted to get started.)

Why Los Alamos Daily Photos?

After following another daily photo site, Shannon's Sequim Daily Photos, I decided to give it a try. Maybe as an emergent hobby? Maybe to get me out and use my camera? Maybe to let others know about Los Alamos , White Rock, and Northern New Mexico? Maybe as a great excuse to get on my bike (trike) and get some exercise?

My plan is to only post pictures I've taken - nothing downloaded from the web - showing a wide variety of photos. I've always liked interactive links...so, I'll to try to add links as related to the photos.

Enjoy! Let me know what you think.
