"Touch the Sky"

The May 2000 Cerro Grande Fire destroyed 200+ homes (representing 400+ families) resulted from long Southwestern drought, overgrown forests, incomplete decision making, and
strong winds. No lives were lost. This statue, "Touch the Sky" is a remembrance of that fire. (Photos taken earlier this fall)

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Los Alamos County Airport take off. We don't see many jets at our airport. This take off is a medical air lift usually carrying patients to Albuquerque, Denver, or other large city hospitals in TX and AZ. Airport was location for "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" staring Sarah Jessica Parker, Hugh Grant and Sam Elliott.

Sandia Mtns In The Distance

Looking south from Los Alamos are the Sandia Mountains rising above Albuquerque -about 48 miles as the crow flies. Technically, the Sandias are not part of the Rocky Mountains which end just south of Santa Fe.

Bandelier Grill in White Rock

We often eat at the Bandelier Grill in White Rock. Since I've lived here, this building housed an A&W, a "chicken place," The Pub, La Salsas, and O'Henry's if memory serves.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

This posting on the way to Los Alamos confirms the rumors about the Roswell aliens. Right? Or maybe it's a sign post for when THEY return. Or, are THEY already here?

Front Yard Statue

Came across this Blue Spruce trunk that had been carved into a front yard statue from a dying tree. Owners say it's color has faded and needs new painting by the artist. Wings are carved out of natural "fork" in the tree.

The Bark Beetle Wins!

Due to long term Southwestern droughtPiñon Pines and many Ponderosa Pine could not make the sap to protect them from the ever present bark beetle. Probably 95+% of the Piñon trees are now dead and fallen.

Oh! Deer!

What's wrong with this picture?

Several areas with potential legacy explosives have been cleared. Signs are posted to keep humans out - but not the mule deer and other wildlife. The Lab carefully monitors wildlife in the area. NO! Deer are not triggering explosions. Nor are they radioactive or genetically mutated.

Entrance Rocks Into Los Alamos and White Rock, NM

Entrance to Los Alamos and White Rock,  NM
Welcome to White Rock, NM (part of Los Alamos).  Below the much painted White Rock rock. Sometimes the rock changes it's "cover" daily. Sometimes the rock has a really special artwork, I'll take a picture and post it - but I'll have to take it quick - before it's repainted.
