Early iris

An iris spotted in a Western Area yard yesterday morning. The white substance is not quite snow but rather graupel — snowflakes that have been coated with hoarfrost as they fell, forming little white balls.

Descending the Main Hill Road

One of the things that I find wonderful about Los Alamos is the stupendous views everyone you turn. For example, all we’re doing here is driving out of town, and yet we get to look at the beautiful Sangres all the way down the hill.

p.s. I was in the passenger seat.

Hi folks,

We are “go” for the new, collaborative incarnation of Los Alamos Daily Photo! If you have any Los Alamos related photos that you’d like to share on this blog, please send them to me. The Submit your photos instructions are above, as well as a new About page.

LADP also has a new web address: http://losalamosdailyphoto.com. The old blogspot address will continue to work, but please share the new link.

I’m still working out all the kinks, so please do send me your questions and feedback! Your friendly editor can be reached at losalamosdailyphoto@gmail.com.

Construction season at LADP

Reid here. I’m very excited to be taking over the editorship of LADP and feel honored that Larry is willing to entrust me with the future of the project. The key new direction I have in mind is to expand LADP’s photographer pool, drawing most or all content from community submissions rather than my own work. I’ll be posting more details on my plans later, as they converge.

But first, I’d love to get a feel for the current readership and listen to any suggestions you might have. Who are you? Why do you come here? What do you think the future of LADP should be like? Please write a comment on this post, or you can e-mail me directly at reid@reidster.net

In terms of my own context, I was born and raised in Los Alamos and graduated from LAHS in 1997. I left for Minnesota and earned my B.A. and Ph.D. there before returning to Los Alamos last November. I study how social computing systems can help us make quantitative sense of the real world, and I hope to build a career here and remain indefinitely. I am married and have one child on the way.
