Canyons Closed

Due to the Las Conchas fire removing trees and ground cover, most of canyons around Los Alamos closed due to real threat of flash flooding after mountain down pours.

  1. Fires create such a double-whammy, don't they? Are there any revegetation efforts?

  2. I'm sure there will be. But too dangerous to start now. After the 2000 Cerro Grande fire, crop dusters came in to drop seed on the burned area. That fire was started by the Nat. Park Service and all kinds of Fed aid came into the area. Have not seen that kind of effort to date.
